Day of Love #5

Are you ready for this? My Aunt Judy makes THE best sugar cookies with icing, and I was asked to donate to our Sunday School's bake sale for Valentine's Day. What better dessert to bring than oversized heart-shape cookies with icing?

Here is her famous recipe for all of you!

SUGAR COOKIES -

1 1/2 CUPS OF POWDERED SUGAR
1 CUP BUTTER
1 EGG
1 TSP VANILLA
1/2 TSP ALMOND FLAVORING
2 1/2 CUPS PLAIN FLOUR
1 TSP SODA
1 TSP CREAM OF TARTAR

CREAM TOGETHER POWDERED SUGAR AND BUTTER. MIX IN EGG, VANILLA AND FLAVORING. BLEND DRY INGREDIENTS AND STIR INTO MIXTURE. REFRIGERATE 2 TO 3 HOURS. (I USUALLY LET THE DOUGH REFRIGERATE OVERNIGHT)

DIVIDE DOUGH IN HALF AND ROLL ONTO LIGHTLY FLOURED PASTRY SHEET UNTIL IT IS 1/8 INCH THICK. CUT DOUGH INTO SHAPES. PLACE ON LIGHTLY GREASED BAKING SHEET. BAKE @ 375 DEGREES FOR 7 TO 8 MINUTES, OR UNTIL SLIGHTLY GOLDEN.


ICING -

4 CUPS POWDERED SUGAR
1/2 CUP BUTTER OR SHORTENING
1 TSP VANILLA
1/4 TO 1/2 CUP MILK

MIX ALL INGREDIENTS TOGETHER

YIELDS ABOUT 5 DOZEN 2 TO 2 1/2 INCH COOKIES


Sidenote: I made these cookies today and they are scrumptious. I think they should sell them for more than a quarter at the bake sale.
